Following her 2023 exhibition Penny & The Dimes: Dimes 4Ever World Tour at Almine Rech London, the novella is a companion piece for the paintings included in the show, acting as a common thread to connect all of the images together as narrative.

While Stern frequently employs fiction writing as a first step in generating images for her painting exhibitions, this is the first time the process has resulted in a fully realized work of writing to accompany the images. Drawing inspiration from speculative science fiction as well as Josie and the Pussycats and the tradition of erotic fanfic, Penny & The Dimes: Dimes 4Evr expands upon themes of youth, beauty, loss, and the future of art in the age of artificial intelligence.
