Art Basel

For Art Basel 2022, Almine Rech proposes a group show which focuses on varying practices within painting. The presented works embody the notion that this medium continues to be vital and enduring. This dialogue is increasingly interesting to scholars investigating the DNA of visual vocabulary.

We will present international and multigenerational artists who approach the portrait genre from eclectic angles, departing from classical ideals, without giving up its foremost principle: capturing the spirit of the model. Artists who depart with what we call figuration will also be included, acknowledging that we are no longer in the era of codified aesthetic distinctions and can experience diverse manners of painting dialogue together.
