Berlin Paris / Un échange de galeries Ziad Antar, Mark Hagen, Peter Peri

Almine Rech Gallery, in collaboration with Galerie Zink, is pleased to announce its participation in the Berlin-Paris gallery exchange with a selection of works by Ziad Antar, Mark Hagen, and Peter Peri.

Despite their use of such disparate media including photography, sculpture or painting, the selected artists share similar strategies of formal reductivism to illustrate what may be regarded as the structural flaws of the socio-cultural promises of Modernism. The works presented lead the viewer to look beyond their geometric or formal strategies, and point to the cracks of this projected utopia, leaving room for our all too human imperfections.

Peter Peri was born in 1971 in London, where he currently lives and works. His pieces have been shown in various venues including Saatchi Gallery, London in 2010, at CCA Andats, Mayorca, at Chelsea Art Museum, New York in 2009 and at the Kunsthalle, Basel in 2006. He is currently taking part in two group exhibitions: 'Theatre of the world', curated by Jean-Hubert Martin at the Museum of Old and New Art in Australia, and 'Contemporary Drawings' at the Tate Britain in London.

Ziad Antar, born 1978 in Saida, Lebanon, currently lives and works between Paris and Beirut. In 2001, Antar obtained a degree in agricultural engineering, but has been working with the mediums of photography and video since 2002. The artist has been included in a number of group exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale in 2011, The New Museum, New York and at the Pistoletto Foundation, Biella, Italy in 2009, at the Tate Modern in 2008, the Palais de Tokyo and the Centre Pompidou, Paris in 2007. In the spring of 2012, the Sharjah Art Foundation organized a personal exhibition, curated by Christine Marcel.

Mark Hagen, born in 1972 in Black Swamp, Virginia (USA) is a painter and a sculptor currently living and working in Los Angeles, California. In 2002, he graduated from the California Institute of Arts in Valencia, California. He has had various personal and group exhibitions including the Mandrake, Los Angeles, at White Colums in New York, at the Orange County Museum of Art, the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art, and is currently included in the Los Angeles Biennial at the Hammer Museum.
