Exploring Art Without Consciousness
The 'Art Without Consciousness' exhibition, set to take place at the Espace Muraille in May - July 2024, will delve into the nuanced boundaries between art and non-art, featuring works by artists using algorithms as a creation tool. Visitors will be encouraged to contemplate and engage with AI- generated installations, sparking inquiries about the artist's role in a world where machines can produce art. This will prompt us to ponder the future of art in a landscape permeated by artificial intelligence (AI). Can a machine create art ? Can we classify an object, whether physical or digital, generated by AI, as an art object? What is a piece generated by a machine that lacks consciousness, intention, self-esteem, anger, desire, or libido? Are we in the midst of redefining the creative process? Are artists, through their exploration of neural networks, guiding us towards a future where art may no longer exist?
