Don Brown

Since 1999, Don Brown’s wife Yoko has been the subject of his delicate and naturalistic sculptures. The artist pursues a sculptural ideal in a classical tradition, without heroism or idealization, demonstrating his technical virtuosity and attention to the smallest of details. Photographing his sculptures as a way of documenting his practice, he gradually discovered a certain autonomy in the medium, “it’s as if everything is concentrated in a single view and the surface is uninterrupted”, says the artist. In his large-scale renderings of fruit and eggs, Brown also has explored the tradition of the still life.
